The Colorado Rockies
Aspen, Colorado
Some of the foremost spots for skiing are in the Rocky Mountains and Aspen, Colorado is at the top of the list. Together, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mountain offer almost 1700 acres of slopes, over 200 runs and 13 lift systems.  Aspen’s slopes aren’t just for the professionals. Beginners, young and old, snowboarders and amateurs can have a lifetime experience skiing in Aspen.

And skiing is not the only allure in the breathtaking beauty of the Colorado Rockies. Aspen also offers hot air balloon tours, snowshoe walks, and snowmobiling. Copper Mountain, Colorado
Copper Mountain is another great skiing spot. Copper Mountain has gained recognition because of its 12,313-foot elevation and 2433 acres of land.  It has 125 runs and 22 lift systems. It’s in the heart of Colorado’s ski region, about 25 minutes from Vail, and close to Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, and Keystone. West Lake District offers skating, shopping and bars. The Lazy Lizard and Endos Adrenaline Café serve as excellent eateries.

The Montana Rockies
Big Mountain, Montana
Another destination swarming with people during the ski season is the Big Mountain, Montana. Just outside of Whitefish and Glacier Park, it’s Montana’s 2nd largest ski resort, offering some 3000 acres of real estate with 93 marked trails and 15 lift systems. The average low temperature is around 44 degrees, but at 17 degrees, it can be icy cold.

Other enticements include sledding, tubing, sleigh riding, dog sledding tours, snow cat skiing in the back country, even ice skating in Whitefish. The resort is served by nine restaurants. You can make reservations at beautiful Alpenglow Inn or the Grouse Mountain Lodge.

Big Sky, Montana
Montana’s other major ski resort, Big Sky, is even larger with 3600 acres, 150 runs and 18 lift systems. Big Sky was the brainchild of former NBC broadcaster Chet Huntley and is currently owned by Boyne Resorts. It is rated 7th in the nation.

The Utah Rockies
Deer Valley, Utah
Another big name associated with skiing is Deer Valley, which is situated in the Rockies near Park City, Utah. It’s at the base of four mountains: Bald Mountain, Flagstaff Mountain, Empire Canyon and Bald Eagle Mountain and has 1,825 acres, 91 runs, 21 chairlifts, and three day lodges. Deer Valley offers horseback riding, swimming, golfing and river rafting in the summer.

Besides these highlighted destinations, you’ll find devoted skiers flocking to other first-class resorts, including: Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Valle Nevado, near Santiago, Chile, and Snowmass, which is part of the Aspen Snowmass Complex in Colorado.
